And We did certainly create man out of clay from an altered black mud. 26 and the jinn before (the human being) of smokeless fire. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 So, when I have made him and have breathed into him of My Spirit, do ye fall down, prostrating yourselves unto him. 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 Said He: "O Iblis! What is thy reason for not being among those who have prostrated themselves?" 32 "How could I bow," said he, "before a mortal whom You created from fermented clay dried tingling hard?" 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 and will be subjected to condemnation until the Day of Judgment." 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 He said, "My Lord, since You have let me go astray. I shall make the path of error seem alluring to them on the earth and shall mislead them all, 39 excepting those Thy servants among them that are devoted. 40 He said: This is a right course incumbent upon Me: 41 Surely, you shall have no power over My true servants, except those misguided ones who choose to follow you. 42 And indeed, Hell is the promised place for them all. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
