But as for anyone who chooses to remain blind to the remembrance of the Most Gracious, to him We assign an [enduring] evil impulse, to become his other self: 36 And indeed, the devils avert them from the way [of guidance] while they think that they are [rightly] guided 37 Till, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says [to his Qarin (Satan / devil companion)] "Would that between me and you were the distance of the two easts (or the east and west)" a worst (type of) companion (indeed)! 38 And never will it benefit you that Day, when you have wronged, that you are [all] sharing in the punishment. 39 Wherefore canst thou make the deaf to hear, or canst thou guide the blind or him who is is error manifest? 40 Even if We take thee away, We shall be sure to exact retribution from them, 41 Or (if) We show thee that wherewith We threaten them; for lo! We have complete command of them. 42 So, hold fast to the Book that has been revealed to you, you are surely on the right path, 43 it is certainly a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be called to account. 44 Yet [above all else,] ask any of Our apostles whom We sent forth before thy time whether We have ever allowed that deities other than the Most Gracious be worshipped! 45
