And assuredly We sent Musa with Our signs unto Fir'awn and his chiefs, and he said: verily I am an apostle of the Lord of the worlds. 46 Yet when he brought forth Clear Signs from Us, then lo, they burst into laughter. 47 And not an Ayah (sign, etc.) We showed them but it was greater than its fellow, and We seized them with torment, in order that they might turn [from their polytheism to Allah's Religion (Islamic Monotheism)]. 48 And they said: O wizard! Entreat thy Lord for us by the pact that He hath made with thee. Lo! we verily will walk aright. 49 So when We averted the calamity from them, they immediately broke the promise! 50 And Pharaoh proclaimed among his people: “My people, do I not have dominion over Egypt, and are these streams not flowing beneath me? Can't you see? 51 Aye! I am better than this one who is despicable, and well-nigh cannot make himself plain. 52 Why have bracelets of gold not been given to him and why have some angels not accompanied him?" 53 So he incited his people to levity and they obeyed him: surely they were a transgressing people. 54 So, when they angered Us, We punished them and drowned them every one. 55 And We made them a precedent and an ensample unto those after. 56
