The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 (Is it) of the great announcement 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 They shall not taste therein cool nor drink 24 except boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 Taste therefore. We shall not increase you in aught but torment. 30
