The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore, [O believer,] endure all adversity with goodly patience: 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains shall be like puffs of wool. 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Surely man is greedy by nature. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Save worshippers. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Surely the chastisement of their Lord is (a thing) not to be felt secure of-- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies. 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
