The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion (Muhammad SAW) has neither gone astray nor has erred. 2 Nor doth he speak of (his own) desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 then drew near and suspended hung, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
