These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a large group from the latter. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And the shade of black smoke, 43 neither cold nor graceful in shape. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you create it, or We are its creator? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Rather, we have been deprived." 67 Have you considered the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
