a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 And so will our fathers?" 48 Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry powder, and ye would be left in wonderment, 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
