The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
