Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Indubitable! 1 What is the sure calamity! 2 And what will teach thee what is the Indubitable? 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the outburst. 5 and as for the 'Ad - they were destroyed by a storm wind furiously raging, 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 Pharaoh likewise, and those before him, and the Subverted Cities -- they committed error, 9 They did not follow the Messenger of their Lord, and so He seized them with a severe grip. 10 Verily when the water rose to great heights, We bore you upon a floating vessel (i.e. the Ark) 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 Then when the Trumpet will be blown with one blowing (the first one), 13 And the earth and the mountains are borne away and crushed with a single crushing. 14 Then, on that day will the Event befall. 15 And the heaven will split asunder – so on that day it will be unstable. 16 and the angels will stand on the sides, with eight of them bearing aloft the Throne of your Lord on that Day. 17 That Day shall ye be brought to Judgment: not an act of yours that ye hide will be hidden. 18 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, he shall say, 'Here, take and read my book! 19 “I was certain that I will confront my account.” 20 Then he shall be in a life well-pleasing 21 in a lofty Garden, 22 The fruit clusters of which are hanging down. 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 As for him whose Record will be given to him in his left hand, he will exclaim: “Would that I had never been given my Record, 25 And had not known what is my account. 26 Oh, would that it had been death! 27 "Of no profit to me has been my wealth! 28 "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" 29 It will be said, “Seize him, and shackle him.” 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 And string him to a chain seventy cubits long. 32 Surely he did not believe in Allah, the Great, 33 nor were they concerned with feeding the destitute. 34 “So he does not have any friend here this day.” 35 Nor any food except from the discharge of wounds; 36 Which none but sinners eat. 37
