Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
