Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you wrapped in garments (i.e. Prophet Muhammad SAW)! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 True, there is for thee by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties: 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 Bear patiently with what they say, and ignore them politely. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
