Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 May he be condemned! 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
