The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
