He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As for he who thinks himself without need, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble, pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 then eased his path for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
