The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the night when it draws a veil, 1 and the day in splendour 2 And by oath of the One Who created the male and the female. 3 O men, you truly strive towards the most diverse ends! 4 For him that gives and fears (Allah) 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 Unto him therefore We shall indeed make easy the path to ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 Who had denied and turned away. 16 The pious ones will be safe from this fire 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
