The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
99 verses, revealed in Mecca after Joseph (Yousuf) before Animals (Al-An 'aam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra'. These are the verses of the Book, and a Clear Qur'an. 1 The unbelievers would haply like to wish that they had submitted (and become Muslim). 2 Let them eat and enjoy; and let their hopes deceive them, soon they shall know. 3 Never did We destroy a population that had not a term decreed and assigned beforehand. 4 Every nation can only live for the time appointed for it. 5 And they say: "O you (Muhammad SAW) to whom the Dhikr (the Quran) has been sent down! Verily, you are a mad man. 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 We do not send the angels but with truth, and then they would not be respited. 8 As for the Admonition, indeed it is We Who have revealed it and it is indeed We Who are its guardians. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 even so We cause it to enter into the hearts of the sinners -- 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Even if We opened out to them a gate from heaven, and they were to continue (all day) ascending therein, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
