(The tribe of) Thamud denied the messengers (of Allah) 141 When their brother Saleh said to them: "Will you not take heed?" 142 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 For this I ask of you no wage; my wage falls only upon the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this here, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 carving comfortable houses out of the mountains? 149 Fear Allah and obey me 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said: "Thou art only one of those bewitched! 153 You are but a man like ourselves, so bring a sign, if you should be of the truthful." 154 He said: This is a she-camel; she shall have her portion of water, and you have your portion of water on an appointed time; 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 But the Penalty seized them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 158 Yet verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 159
