In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Surely We will make to light upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily the rising by night! it is most curbing and most conducive to right speech. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a Food that chokes, and a Penalty Grievous. 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
