Light (Al-Noor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ This is a chapter which We have revealed to you and made obligatory for you to follow its guidance. We have revealed clear verses in it so that perhaps you may take heed. 1 The adulteress and the adulterer – punish each one of them with a hundred lashes; and may you not have pity on them in the religion to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day; and a group of believers must witness their punishment. 2 The fornicator shall marry none but a fornicatress or an idolatress, and the fornicatress -- none shall marry her but a fornicator or an idolator; that is forbidden to the believers. 3 Those who accuse chaste women, and cannot produce four witnesses, you shall lash them with eighty lashes. And never accept their testimony, for they are evildoers, 4 Except those who repent after this and act aright, for surely Allah is Forgiving, Merciful. 5 And for those who accuse their wives, but have no witnesses except themselves, let the testimony of one of them be four testimonies (i.e. testifies four times) by Allah that he is one of those who speak the truth. 6 And the fifth (oath) (should be) that they solemnly invoke the curse of Allah on themselves if they tell a lie. 7 But it will prevent punishment from her if she gives four testimonies [swearing] by Allah that indeed, he is of the liars. 8 And the fifth that Allah's wrath be upon her if he is of the truthtellers. 9 And if not for the favor of Allah upon you and His mercy... and because Allah is Accepting of repentance and Wise. 10
