Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 when he asked his father and others, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 Said he: "Do [you really think that] they hear you when you invoke them, 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They said: Nay, we found our fathers doing so. 74 (Abraham) said, "Do you know that what you worship 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 And He Who will cause me to die, then give me life; 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 And disgrace me not on the day when they are raised 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the Garden shall be brought nigh to the God-fearing. 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will dispute between themselves therein, and will say, 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 Now we have no intercessors, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 If only we could return we would be among the believers." 102 Lo! herein is indeed a portent, yet most of them are not believers! 103 Surely, Your Lord is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 104
