[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to [one of God's] message-hearers 141 When their fellowman Saleh said to them, “Do you not fear?” 142 Truly, I am a trustworthy messenger for you, 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 In gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 You hew dwellings in mountains and exult in that. 149 Therefor keep your duty to Allah and obey me, 150 “And do not follow those who exceed the limits.” 151 those who spread corruption on earth instead of setting things to rights!" 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 "You are but a human being like us. Then bring us a sign if you are of the truthful." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 so the punishment came down upon them. Surely in that there is a sign, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
