The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
