And recount to them the story of Abraham: 69 when he asked his father and his people, "What is that which you worship?" 70 They said: "We worship idols, and we remain constantly in attendance on them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 "And Who will cause me to die, and then will bring me to life (again); 81 and whom I am eager shall forgive me my sins on the Day of Recompense' 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 "Grant me honourable mention on the tongue of truth among the latest (generations); 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Do not betray me 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 "And to those straying in Evil, the Fire will be placed in full view; 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 Instead of Allah? Can they help you or help themselves? 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 "Quarrelling therein with each other, 96 "We were clearly misguided 97 when we assigned to you a position equal to that of the Lord of the Universe. 98 It was nothing but the evildoers who led us astray. 99 “So now we do not have any intercessors.” (The believers shall have intercessors, the disbelievers none). 100 Nor a true friend; 101 “So if only were we to go back, in order to become Muslims!” 102 In this there is evidence (of the truth), but many of them do not have any faith. 103 Verily your Lord is mighty and merciful. 104
