The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Woe unto the scrimpers: 1 Who insist on being given full when they take from others, 2 but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. 3 Do they not know that they are bound to be raised from the dead 4 On a Mighty Day, 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is? 8 A Register inscribed. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin; 12 When Our revelations are recited before him, he says: "These are fables of long ago." 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 Indeed! On that Day a barrier will be set between them and their Lord, 15 then they shall roast in Hell. 16 Then it shall be said to them, 'This is that you cried lies to.' 17 Nay! Most surely the record of the righteous shall be in the Iliyin. 18 But how will you comprehend what 'Illiyun is? 19 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed, 20 witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 reclining on couches, reviewing (the bounties given to them). 23 On their faces you will see the glow of beatitude. 24 They will be given to drink pure sealed wine. 25 pouring forth with a fragrance of musk. To that [wine of paradise,] then, let all such aspire as [are willing to] aspire to things of high account: 26 And its mixture is of Tasneem, 27 A fountain from which drink they who are drawn near (to Allah). 28 The sinners had been laughing at the believers. 29 when they passed by them they winked, 30 and whenever they return to people of their own kind, they return full of jests; 31 And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray. 32 And they were not sent to be keepers over them. 33 So Today those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers, 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do? 36
