The tribe of Thamud rejected the Messengers. 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 “I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger of Allah to you.” 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 And I ask of you no wage therefor; my wage is the concern only of the Lord of the Worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 And tilled fields and heavy-sheathed palm-trees, 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who make mischief in the land and do not act aright. 152 They replied: "You are nothing but one of those who are bewitched; 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 and do her no harm, lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 156 But they cruelly slaughtered her - and then they had cause to regret it: 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
