Let the dead earth be a Sign for them. We gave it life and produced from it grain whereof they eat. 33 We made in it gardens of date-palms and vines, and We caused springs to gush forth 34 That they may eat of the fruit thereof; and their hands worked it not. Will they not, therefore, give thanks? 35 Hallowed be He who hath created all the pairs of that which the earth groweth, and of themselves and of that which they know not! 36 And a sign for them is the night; We strip the day out of it, thereupon they are in darkness. 37 And [they have a sign in] the sun: it runs in an orbit of its own [and] that is laid down by the will of the Almighty, the All-Knowing; 38 We have ordained phases for the moon until finally it becomes like an old date-stalk. 39 It is not allowable for the sun to reach the moon, nor does the night overtake the day, but each, in an orbit, is swimming. 40 And a sign to them is that We bear their offspring in the laden ship. 41 and [that] We create for them things of a similar kind, on which they may embark [in their travels]; 42 And if We will, We shall drown them, and there will be no shout (or helper) for them (to hear their cry for help) nor will they be saved. 43 except Our mercy which could enable them to enjoy themselves for an appointed time. 44 When it is said to them: "Beware of what is before you and what is past, that you may be treated with kindness;" 45 And never came an Ayah from among the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of their Lord to them, but they did turn away from it. 46 When they are told: "Spend of what God has given you," the unbelievers say to those who believe: "Why should we feed those whom God should have fed if He pleased?" You are only in palpable error. 47 They also say, 'When shall this promise come to pass, if you speak truly?' 48 They await not but one shout, which shall lay hold of them while they are yet wrangling. 49 And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return. 50
