۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay! on that day they shall be submissive. 26 And some of them shall advance towards others, questioning each other. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Behold, you will indeed taste grievous suffering [in the life to come,] 38 But it will be no more than the retribution of (the Evil) that ye have wrought;- 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 fruits of various kinds; and they shall be honoured, 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 upon couches, set face to face, 44 There will be circulated among them a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring, 45 Clear, delicious to drink, 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And besides them will be chaste women, restraining their glances, with big eyes (of wonder and beauty). 48 As if they were (delicate) eggs closely guarded. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 who would say, "Are you a confirmer? 52 after we die and become dust and bones, we shall be brought to judgement?'" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 And had it not been for the favour of my Lord, I too had been of those haled forth (to doom). 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have made this (tree) a trial for the evildoers. 63 For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire: 64 its fruit [as repulsive] as satans' heads; 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 Then on the top of that they will be given boiling water to drink so that it becomes a mixture (of boiling water and Zaqqum in their bellies). 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 But they make haste (to follow) in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And assuredly We sent among them warners. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
