Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha'. Mim. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 (We revealed it on the Night) wherein every matter is wisely determined 4 As commands from Us. It is indeed We who send (messengers), 5 A Mercy from your Lord, He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 Which would envelope mankind. That would be a grievous affliction. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 Yet they turned away from him and said: one tutored, one distraced. 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And corn-fields and noble buildings, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they respited; 29
