The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 So will you dispute with him over what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
