The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
