The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 arise, and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 And again perish he! How maliciously he devised! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
