He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And hath fear, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 lofty and pure, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 and angelic scribes. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He eased the way for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, and puts him in his grave; 21 then, He will raise him when He wills. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
