Shattering (Al-Infitaar)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 And when the stars become dispersed, 2 when the seas are made to burst forth, 3 And when the graves are turned upside down (and they bring out their contents) 4 (Then) shall each soul know what it hath sent forward and (what it hath) kept back. 5 O man! What has deceived you about your generous Lord 6 Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you? 7 Into whatever form He pleased He constituted you. 8 No! But you deny the Recompense. 9 Yet over you there are watchers, 10 watching over you 11 Who know (all) that ye do. 12 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 13 And the Wicked - they will be in the Fire, 14 [a fire] which they shall enter on Judgment Day, 15 And will not be able to hide from it. 16 And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense? 17 Again, what shall teach thee what is the Day of Doom? 18 (It will be) the Day when no soul shall have power (to do) aught for another: For the command, that Day, will be (wholly) with Allah. 19

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
