The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the finest, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease for him the Path of Hardship (the Fire). 10 And what will his wealth benefit him when he goes down (in destruction). 11 Indeed guiding is upon Us. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 even he who gives his wealth. to purify himself 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; 20 He verily will be content. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
