To the Thamud people (We sent) Salih, one of their own brethren: He said: "O my people! worship Allah: ye have no other god but Him. Now hath come unto you a clear (Sign) from your Lord! This she-camel of Allah is a Sign unto you: So leave her to graze in Allah's earth, and let her come to no harm, or ye shall be seized with a grievous punishment. 73 Remember, how you were made leaders after the people of 'Ad, and were settled on the land so that you could construct on the plains palaces, and carve dwellings out of mountains. So think of the favours of God, and do not act with corruption in the land." 74 The proud assembly of his nation said to the weak? amongst them who believed: 'Do you really believe that Salih is sent from his Lord' They answered: 'We believe in that with which he was sent' 75 Those who were proud said: 'We disbelieve in that which you believed in' 76 Then they hamstrung the she-camel and rebelled against the command of their Lord, and said: "Bring, O Saleh, on us the affliction you promise, if you are one of the sent ones." 77 So the earthquake overwhelmed them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling places. 78 And he turned away from them and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not like advisors." 79 And Lot, when he said to his people, 'What, do you commit such indecency as never any being in all the world committed before you? 80 Indeed, you approach men with desire, instead of women. Rather, you are a transgressing people." 81 And the only answer of his people was that they said, 'Expel them from your city; surely they are folk that keep themselves clean!' 82 So We saved him and his family -- except for his wife. She was one of those who stayed behind. 83 And We rained upon them a rain; consider then what was the end of the guilty. 84
