The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 And couches raised up. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for those on the Right, 38
