Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
We sent Noah to his people, saying, 'Warn thy people, ere there come on them a painful chastisement.' 1 [And Noah] said: "O my people! I am but a plain warner to you, [sent to tell you] 2 that you serve Allah and fear Him, and follow me; 3 That He may forgive you somewhat of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Lo! the term of Allah, when it cometh, cannot be delayed, if ye but knew. 4 He said; 'My Lord, I have called my people by night and by day, 5 but my pleas have only increased their aversion. 6 And whenever I called them, that Thou mightest forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, and wrapped them in their garments, and persisted, and waxed very proud. 7 Then surely I called to them aloud: 8 "Then verily, I proclaimed to them in public, and I have appealed to them in private, 9 Then I said, Ask forgiveness of your Lord, surely He is the most Forgiving: 10 He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers 11 'And give you increase in wealth and children, and bestow on you gardens and bestow on you rivers." 12 What aileth you that ye expect not in Allah majesty! 13 who has created you in several stages? 14 Have you not seen how Allah created the seven heavens one above the other, 15 And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp? 16 And Allah hath caused you to grow from the earth as a growth. 17 And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing. 18 And Allah hath made the earth unto you an expanse. 19 "'That ye may go about therein, in spacious roads.'" 20
