The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked, 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
