Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard), weary,- 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 their drink shall be from a boiling spring. 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 In which are high thrones. 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Will they not then consider the camels, how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 In Our hands are their accounts. 26
