Al-Shams
The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER the sun and its radiant brightness, 1 And [by] the moon when it follows it 2 And by the day as it shows up (the sun's) brightness; 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Him Who builded it, 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 By the soul and Him Who propertioned it, 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 To a happy state shall indeed attain he who causes this [self] to grow in purity, 9 and he who suppresses it will be ruined. 10 The Thamud tribe rejected the truth because of their arrogance, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 And for Him is no fear of its consequences. 15
True are the words of God the Almighty.
