He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 lofty and pure, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a single sperm He created, then proportioned him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
