The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And Him Who hath created male and female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And accepts the best, 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But as for him who is a miser, and self-sufficient, 8 and he belied the finest 9 Unto him therefore We shall Indeed make easy the path to hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Next Life and the present. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 Which only the most wretched must endure, 15 who denied [the truth], and turned away. 16 One who fears God shall be kept away from it -- 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
