The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 and by the day when it breaks in its glory, 2 By Him Who hath created the male and the female, 3 Verily, [O men,] you aim at most divergent ends! 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for one who is miserly and unheeding, 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Verify on us is the guidance 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 and confers no favor upon anyone for recompense 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
