The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 He would enjoin piety, so how good it would be! 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 and then let him summon [to his aid] the counsels of his own [spurious] wisdom, 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
