S (Saad)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad, and by the Qur'an full of exhortation! 1 But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. 2 How many a generation have We destroyed before them, and they [then] called out; but it was not a time for escape. 3 Now they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a lying sorcerer. 4 Maketh he the gods One God? Verily that is a thing astounding! 5 And their leading chiefs said: "Remain attached to your gods. There is surely some motive behind it. 6 "We never heard (the like) of this among the people of these latter days: this is nothing but a made-up tale!" 7 What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! 8 Or is it that they have the treasures of the mercy of your Lord, the Mighty, the great Giver? 9 Or, is theirs the Kingdom of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them? Then let them ascend by (their) means! 10 They are only a small band among the defeated confederate tribes. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] 13 Each of them who rejected the Messenger become subject to Our punishment. 14
