The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And obeys its Lord and it must. 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 He will cry out for destruction 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 for, behold, he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him! 15 No! I swear by the twilight 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 That you shall most certainly enter one state after another. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie. 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
