The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite! Your Lord is the most Honorable One, 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman when he offers the prayer? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not realize that God sees him? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 No! Do not obey him. But prostrate and draw near [to Allah]. ۩ 19
