The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Night as it conceals (the light); 1 and by the day as it appears radiantly, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 And believeth in goodness; 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 But he who does not give and is unconcerned, 8 and denied the Truth of goodness: 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 And his riches will not avail him when he falls headlong (into the Abyss). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 and owes no favour to anyone, which is to be repaid, 19 seeking only the Face of his Lord, the Most High, 20 And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
