The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great news, (i.e. Islamic Monotheism, the Quran, which Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) brought and the Day of Resurrection, etc.), 2 That over which they are in disagreement. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have builded over you seven strong heavens. 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 and when the mountains are made to vanish as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
